Barley Republic on Spanish street

New Irish Pub in town, just in time for St Pat’s day.

We want to welcome Red and Lauren to the ancient city. They are proprietors of the Barley Republic on Spanish St in the heart of St Augustine. They took the old ‘blue’ pizza place and made it their own, and then some! We never knew that old building had so much charm! And we like the menu, fresh, unique, and eclectic. They are perfect for St Augustine.

For those of you who know St Augustine, head west on Cuna St, turn left at the Prince of Whales (POW) and the Republic will be on your right, before Hypolia St. Lauren and Red took an old building and gave it new life by exposing the old brick fireplace, taking out walls that blocked-off the rooms, and my favorite change, repurposed the bathtub area for a beer cooler! So now it’s a new, hip looking dining room with the huge deck (Like before) out front. Tip – park in their parking lot, right next door!

They have a ‘quality over quantity’ paradigm when it comes to beer, only the best in its class at this pub. The food is made from the freshest, chef-chosen ingredients, but still maintains its own personality. For instance, they don’t just have a BLT, they have a BLAT – Avocado – makes an old standby sing with flavor! The burgers are plump and juicy, and of course, they have traditional favorites made their way. Yum!

So stop by the new Barley Republic on Spanish street and say hi to Red and his beautiful wife, Lauren, and tell them Charlotte sent ya!
