Don Juan McQueen

Did you know there really was a Don Juan McQueen who lived in St Augustine Florida? Well sure you did if you like Eugenia Price novels but, there really was such a person, and yes, he really was quite the18th century adventurer.

A courier for General Washington in the American Revolutionary war, he later had to leave Georgia escaping to Spanish St Augustine to avoid his debts, and became the Spanish Colonial Governor’s right-hand man. What an amazing story.

He is just one of the many historic stories of the Tolomato Cemetery on Cordova St in St Augustine Florida, and a major part of the American story. The cemetery is opened to the public on a schedule and is full of culture and history.

The St Augustine Record has an article about this amazing man and how one determined woman, a member the DAR, worked to bestow the title of DAR Patriot upon him and a place a marker to commemorate the distinction.

Just another reason to come to the best B&B, the Inn on Charlotte, in historic downtown St Augustine, FL. We look forward to meeting, and hosting you.
