St Augustine ranks 10th longest city in the United States as a ‘Tree City USA’, and the Inn on Charlotte bed and breakfast is a proud supporter of this official city ordinance (City code: 25-56) and of the city who for over 30 years, has been a Tree City USA city.
In St Augustine, we are considered an ‘Urban Forest’ with all the trees growing around the old city bed and breakfasts. Sometimes the trees are welcome, when you get fruit or shade from it. But other trees are not so fun, with pollen, tassels, needles, palms, dates, and other things falling from the sky. But in any case, more than 30 years ago, St Augustine made the commitment to become a Tree City USA by passing laws that protect all trees within the city limits. And the bed and breakfasts have benefited from the extra charm a tree can bring to a city.
At the same time while protecting trees, the city encourages planting trees as well along with proper tree trimming, pruning, and removal of trees when it’s warranted. And as a gardener, the Inn on Charlotte loves living in a city that protects it’s trees.
So the next time you stay at our bed and breakfast, or just visit St Augustine for the day, walk the shade-lined streets, or sit in a shaded court-yard, feel good knowing that beautiful tree is protected, and will not be removed by anyone… unless it’s time has come, that it.
